At the Faculty of Architecture of the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice, a training was organized by the Silesian Regional Chamber of Architects of the Republic of Poland and SARP Katowice / Architecture Gallery, which was led by Iwona Benek, PhD Eng. Arch. on the subject of ‘Shaping Space without Barriers. Universal Design as an Architect’s Work tool’.During the training, it was discussed how to design – in the scale of public spaces, green areas and buildings and their interiors – in a friendly way for people with various limitations, including the elderly and the disabled. The concept of universal design is discussed as a philosophy of shaping space in a various way and the social benefits. Should universal design be treated as a direction and way of thinking, or a strict method of action?
